Have you ever been on a road trip, and you have an idea of how you want to get there? I have this conversation, and it goes something like this: "Honey, just go from point A to point B. Don't you know that a "straight line" is the quickest way to go?
He looks at me, explains how he wants to get to our final destination. "We will go straight here, turn right, then take a left, and another left, go straight, then take another right, and we will be there." Showing me the map, I get a visual, and gain further frustration.
Isn't it like us to want to go our own way, even when there is a better way? Isn't it like us to not realize that there is more than one way to get somewhere?
That is how it is with us and God. He calls us to go somewhere, to do something, with a Kingdom purpose. What do we do? We look for the quickest and shortest way to get there. We go all around, turning here and there, before we actually get where God wants us to be. In all of this, we just keep trying to do the task, get to the destination on our own.
Can you just imagine God thinking, and wanting us to realize that He has the perfect way. Yes, there are choices that we can make, in the process. If we seek first and want God first, he will direct our path. It all comes to Obedience to getting where we are told to be.
Sometimes the quickest way is not the best way. Sometimes the many twists and turns is not the best way, and distractions can slow us down.
Jesus has told us that if we lack wisdom, just ask. The Lord has the road map, and it tells us the way (or ways) we can travel. We just need to put our self aside, ask God to give us the wisdom needed to accomplish His Will, and to arrive where He wants us to so that we can accomplish the work He has called us to do.
So, where is God telling you to go, or what does He want you to do? How are you going to arrive there? The journey is an adventure, but we cannot do it alone. God is with us, he is faithful, and he will guide, direct, and even send others to go with us.
Enjoy the journey, the road God has you to travel.....and may you find the way to get there that is best....and trust God along the way.
So true! His map for us holds such good things - "stops" that we might not have scheduled along the way; but looking back we wouldn't have wanted to miss.
